Cowboys, Quinnen Williams Agree to $105.9 Million Extension
The Dallas Cowboys and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams have reached an agreement on a three-year, $105.9 million contract extension. The deal was finalized on Monday, ahead of Williams’ first full season with the team.
The extension includes $101 million guaranteed and will be added to the two years remaining on his current contract. This agreement could keep Williams with the Cowboys through 2030. His annual average salary of $35.3 million places him second among defensive tackles, behind only Jalen Carter of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Williams’ Impact and Team Changes
Stephen Jones, the Cowboys‘ executive vice president of personnel, stated that the club had been working with Williams’ agents on an extension. The agreement was reached less than two weeks after training camp opened. Jones noted that the extension “puts a bow on top” of the trade that brought Williams to Dallas.
The Cowboys acquired Williams in a trade during the 2025 season. This move followed a significant trade that sent pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.
Williams’ arrival provided an initial boost to the team’s defence. Following the trade, the Cowboys won their first three games before a 44-30 loss to Detroit. The team then experienced a run of four losses in five games to end the season, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
During coach Brian Schottenheimer‘s first season, the Cowboys finished with a 7-9-1 record, despite having one of the league’s best offences. The team spent the offseason overhauling its defence, with Williams expected to be a central figure in these changes.
Rebuilding the Defence
The Cowboys hired Christian Parker as their new defensive coordinator. The team also made several other roster moves to strengthen the defence.
These additions include:
- Rashan Gary, acquired in a trade with Green Bay.
- Rookie safety Caleb Downs and defensive end Malachi Lawrence, both first-round draft picks.
- Cornerback Cobie Durant and safeties P.J. Locke and Jalen Thompson, signed in free agency.
The team also drafted Michigan pass rusher Jaishawn Barham and acquired Dee Winters in a trade with San Francisco, with the belief that Barham could play off the line of scrimmage.

Williams joins a returning group of defensive players, including fellow defensive tackle Kenny Clark. Other returning players include second-year defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, cornerbacks DaRon Bland and Shavon Revel Jr., and safety Malik Hooker.
The Williams was the third overall pick in the 2019 draft by the Jets. He earned an All-Pro selection three years later. Williams has yet to play for a winning team in the NFL and is still seeking his first playoff appearance.
Defensive line coach Marcus Dixon expressed happiness for Williams, noting his hard work, approach to the game, and dedication to perfecting his craft. Williams has accumulated 41.5 career sacks, 343 tackles, 110 quarterback hits, and eight forced fumbles. He is also on a four-year streak of Pro Bowl selections, earning the distinction most recently while splitting the 2025 campaign between the Jets and Cowboys.
In three of the previous four years, Williams has been rated among the top-five interior defensive linemen by PFF, with grades of 90.1 in 2022, 90.6 in 2023, and 88.8 in 2025. During his time with the Cowboys last season, from Weeks 11-18, his 30 pressures ranked second among defensive tackles.
The Cowboys‘ rushing defence improved after Williams joined the team. Before his arrival, they allowed 143 rushing yards per game over nine contests. After the trade, this figure decreased to 105.8 yards per game over the final eight outings, with the team holding opponents to under 80 yards on the ground three times, something they had not achieved previously.
