Richmond Hill’s Taylor Pendrith named Presidents Cup assistant captain
Pendrith Joins International Team Leadership
Taylor Pendrith, a 35-year-old from Richmond Hill, Ont., has been appointed as a captain’s assistant for the International Team at the upcoming Presidents Cup. He will serve under captain Geoff Ogilvy, working alongside Trevor Immelman, Camilo Villegas, and Tim Clark. This marks Pendrith’s first time in a leadership role for the event, having previously competed as a player.
Pendrith expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating that being asked to serve as a captain’s assistant is deeply meaningful to him. He looks forward to supporting the team’s players at Medinah Country Club. Both Pendrith and Clark were announced as assistants, completing Ogilvy’s leadership group for the competition.

Ogilvy highlighted Clark’s experience in team golf and Pendrith’s participation in recent Presidents Cups as valuable assets for the team’s preparation. Pendrith represented the International Team in the past two Presidents Cups, making his debut in 2022 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., and later competing at Royal Montreal Golf Club.
Player Performance and Past Appearances
This season, Pendrith recorded two top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a playoff loss at the ISCO Championship in July. He finished 89th in the FedEx Cup standings and did not qualify for the playoffs. Pendrith’s lone PGA Tour victory came at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
He was selected by Immelman for his Presidents Cup debut in 2022. Two years later, Pendrith was among three Canadians chosen by captain Mike Weir for the event at Royal Montreal, joining Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes. During his time at Royal Montreal, Pendrith earned two points for the International Team. He partnered with Adam Scott for a victory over Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala.
Pendrith’s selection as an assistant captain was a surprise to him, given his recent performance on the PGA Tour. He noted that his golf game had not been as strong as he had hoped, and making the team as a player was a significant goal. He acknowledged that he has looked up to many of the past leadership figures in the event and is eager to be in a position to support the current players.
Looking Ahead to Medinah
Pendrith becomes the second Canadian to serve as a Presidents Cup assistant, following Mike Weir, who held the position in 2017, 2019, and 2022 before captaining the International Team in 2024. The United States defeated the International Team 18½-11½ at Royal Montreal in their most recent encounter.
The 2026 Presidents Cup is scheduled to take place from September 24-27 at Medinah Country Club, located outside Chicago. Six players have already secured automatic spots on the International Team: Si Woo Kim, Tom Kim, Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott, Ryan Fox, and Hideki Matsuyama. Ogilvy will select an additional six players to complete the team.
Pendrith’s role will involve supporting the players and contributing to the team’s strategy. He mentioned discussions about the captain’s picks and expressed his hope to advocate for fellow Canadian Nick Taylor, who has not yet played in a Presidents Cup. The team aims to finalize their selections for the event in Illinois.

The Presidents Cup will run from September 22 to September 27 at Medinah Country Club.
